SYNOPSIS

Berlin, in the near future. Hedda, a young zoologist specializing in bats bioacoustics, lives alone under the growing pressure of a pro-natalist regime. On her 34th birthday, she is summoned by the government’s Repopulation 2050 program to explain why she is not yet a mother. Hedda is forced to participate in a medical and psychological program that will compel her to confront her relationship with motherhood and the fragile bond that ties her to her own mother.

France, 1786. Berthe, a young aristocrat who bears the same birthmark on her face as Hedda, lives in seclusion in a castle. She is subjected to animal magnetism treatments by two doctors tasked with curing her infertility and ensuring the continuation of her lineage. When Madeleine, a pregnant Black woman sent by her husband Louis from Saint-Domingue, is brought to live with Berthe, the fates of both women become forever intertwined in a world ruled by patriarchal and colonial domination.

What mysterious legacy unites Hedda and Berthe, who seem to hear one another across time?
