SYNOPSIS

Berlin, 2040. Hedda, a zoology researcher, arrives in the city to investigate a mysterious ecological anomaly: baby bats appear abandoned in daylight in human spaces. While her body slips into vertigo, hallucinations, and the certainty of an impossible pregnancy, Hedda begins nursing a rescued frail bat at home. France, 1786. Berthe, an aristocrat with Hedda’s birthmark, is confined in a dark château with two practitioners of animal magnetism. By her husband’s demands from Saint-Domingue, an enslaved pregnant woman is brought in to “awaken” Berthe’s fertility as violence, desire, and female resistance coil around the castle. What secret inheritance binds together Hedda and Berthe?
